The Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) is the central resource for the whole of Devon receiving all safeguarding and child protection enquiries. It is staffed with professionals from a range of agencies including police, health, mental health, education, social care, housing, probation, early years, youth offending, fire, and domestic abuse services.
Where appropriate, the MASH team is able to immediately trigger a response, the emphasis being on interventions to the child or young person and their family to prevent harm.

Every local authority has a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) who is responsible for co-ordinating the response to concerns that an adult who works with children may have caused them or could cause them harm.
The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) works within Children’s Services and gives advice and guidance to employers, organisations and other individuals who have concerns about the behaviour of an adult who works with children and young people.

This service is available to young people aged from 10 to 17. Usually, the police contact Devon YOS when someone has committed an offence, and they work with young people who are given a court order. However, family members and friends can contact YOS if they are worried about a young person’s behaviour and they will always try to help where they can.

Torbay YOT are a team of professionals from Children’s Services, Education, Police, Probation and Primary Care Trust, working together to prevent children and young people from offending/re-offending and promoting safe communities. YOT get involved when a young person age 10-18 years is identified as being ‘at risk’ of offending or when a young person is arrested by the Police and charged with an offence.
