Supporting young people is at the heart of what we do – and providing the right support for those who are struggling to make a positive shift in their lives is one of our key aims.

Ratio is a dynamic 12-week one-to-one person-centred coaching provision tailored to provide the right support for young people aged 11-16 who are at risk of disengaging from mainstream secondary education in Torbay. There are a number of challenges which can put young people at risk of disengaging from education, these include: ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), bullying, learning disabilities, anxiety and low self-esteem.

Ratio is project managed by skilled and trained staff and utilises a team of well-trained volunteer coaches, who have been safely recruited and equipped with the tools to enable young people to make the necessary gear shift to enable them to succeed in education and home life. Our volunteer coaches strive to build positive relationships with each young person, so that the coaches can guide each session to the young person’s specific needs, interests, skills, and knowledge.

Key to successful outcomes from Ratio is the agreement in advance with each young person of an exit strategy. We feel that there is no need to help a young person to shift their life up a gear, for them to be left alone and not knowing what to do next; by the end of their support each young person will have developed an awareness of their community and the assets within it, that they can access if they so choose for continued support after Ratio.

The potential outcomes for Ratio are:

• Young people engaged in activities that promote mental wellbeing.
• Reported sense of improved mental wellbeing.
• More connected and engaged within their community.
• Reduced isolation.
• Young people feeling more in control of life.
• Learning a new skill.
• Gaining work experience/volunteering.
• Engaged in training.
• Increase young people’s sense of safety.

We offer support for 1 hour per week within a school setting during the academic year. For further information or to make a referral into Ratio please contact
