In 2018, a few people within the Chillington community got together to try and address the lack of somewhere for young people to meet up with other people of their own age. Amazingly, with a little enthusiasm and support from Youth Genesis, the idea spread to reality.
Time 2 Chill is based Chillington Village Hall on Thursday evenings.
We are available from 6.30pm to 8.00pm during term time.
For ages 11-17, Time2Chill provides a safe space for young people to access support, meet with friends, develop and learn new skills. It is run by volunteers from the local community, who completed our 6-week youth work training course which equipped our volunteers with the knowledge and tools to be able to create a safe space and to support young people.
Our youth workers have been focusing on building professional relationships with young people in the community through conversations and activities which has led to young people taking ownership of the drop in; re-naming the drop in and becoming more involved in the planning of the sessions, such as cooking, finger knitting, dancing and paper crafts.
In 2018 Time2Chill also welcomed their first youth volunteer, as part of the young person’s Duke of Edinburgh award the young person needed to volunteer. The young person chose to volunteer at Time2Chill, where their responsibilities included being a positive role model, helping to set up and pack away after each session, to take responsibility of the kitchen and to help create a welcoming space.
