Our Background & Aims
Inspiring Young People with a Vision for Life
Starting life as an inter-church youth project in Brixham in 2007, Youth Genesis has grown to serve young people and local communities across a wide geographical area. Covering Torbay and parts of Devon, Youth Genesis is working at a grassroots level with communities to setup and establish sustainable youth services for the most disadvantaged young people.
Youth Genesis aims to transform the lives of young people through a range of dynamic activities and sessions that are designed to challenge, innovate and radically inspire the next generation living in our local communities.
Whether you’re a church, local council, community partnership or grassroots project, the Youth Genesis methodology is to work with community groups and organisations to bring together resources, local knowledge and assets to grow transformational resources for young people.
Even though the work of Youth Genesis has grown over the years, the original vision and mission remains the same: to share God’s love through social action to those who are in need – basing our work on what the Apostle John writes in 1 John 3:16-18: This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Rather than parachuting a team of paid workers into an area, Youth Genesis will begin working in a new community by invitation. Our approach is to work with churches and existing groups to recruit and train a team of local volunteers who will work with local young people. Youth Genesis will then provide the infra-structure of support i.e. policy, insurance, funding and administration to enable the local community to offer and sustain services. Our mission and values come into play as we work to connect the church with the local community through utilising assets such as church buildings and new volunteers.
